Positive Ageing Rotorua to appoint new
members
Rotorua residents over the age of 50 are invited to a public meeting on Thursday 11 August to learn about Positive Ageing Rotorua and consider putting their names forward for this forum.
People now have the chance to provide an independent voice for the seniors of Rotorua through Positive Ageing Rotorua. The initiative to strengthen participation by seniors in council decision-making began 12 months ago with diverse group of 10 members, established as part of the People Portfolio.
The public meeting to be held at Rotorua Lakes Council, will give enthusiastic 50 plus residents the chance to meet current members, learn more about what Positive Ageing does for Rotorua and apply for a position.
Chairperson, Russell Hallam says the group is looking for new members who have good communication skills, are respectful of people’s differences and have a good community network.
“Since our group began, we have been able to discuss and submit feedback on new council strategies such as the Inner City Revitalisation and Sustainability strategies.
“We were also involved in providing feedback to make the new library age friendly.
“The past 12 months have been a learning time for us while we each settled into our roles. Our members are hardworking, they have a broad outlook and are committed to the objectives of Positive Ageing and increasing participation by our older population.”
