perspective on the Unitary Plan
The Unitary plan, released on Wednesday 27th of July, is the plan for the next 30 years of Auckland housing. The plan is the work of the Auckland Unitary Plan Independent Hearings Panel chaired by Judge David Kirkpatrick. It is the result of three years of public consultation, including thousands of public submission’s and testimony from hundreds of independent experts.
It is expected the plan will zone for increased density in existing suburbs and allow for increased green and brown field development. The Coalition believes that the passing of the Unitary Plan is a necessary first step toward solving the housing crisis, fueled by a lack of housing supply, that is keeping a generation of Aucklanders off the housing ladder and leaving families without homes.
