Accessible Properties’ opens new homes in Auckland

Simon O’Connor, Tamaki MP, will open five new social housing homes in Glen Innes, Auckland at 10.30 am on Tuesday 26 July.

These units have been built by Accessible Properties, a division of IHC New Zealand, the country’s largest non-government community housing provider.

The homes will be used for affordable rental by people with social support needs, including placements from the government’s social housing register.

They include a mixture of one and two bedroom properties, three of which are wheel chair accessible featuring wide hallways and fully accessible bathrooms.

“These homes are great examples of the kinds of properties we’re committed to building,” says Accessible Properties’ General Manager Andrew Wilson. “They are good quality and conveniently located. They are opposite Glen Innes School, on a bus route and close to the railway station. The Glen Innes shopping centre is also close by.”

Accessible Properties is a Registered Community Housing Provider and a member of Auckland Community Housing Providers Network. It is a charity that currently manages 1,400 social housing units throughout the country. Accessible Properties’ tenants are eligible to apply for the Government’s Income Related Rent Subsidy.

“We prioritise our tenants and pick tenancy managers that are committed to getting the best outcomes for the people in our homes,” says Andrew Wilson.

These homes are the latest of the more than 170 Accessible Properties has built thanks to the Government’s Social Housing Fund. 54 of those homes have been built in Auckland.

“Accessible Properties is committed to being where the housing need is greatest,” says Andrew Wilson. “In addition to these houses we will build a further 58 homes in Auckland over the next three years and will lease and sublease a further 300 with IRRS supplementary grants.”
