KiwiRail repairs will affect Hornby commercial area

18 July 2016

KiwiRail repairs will affect Hornby commercial area two weekends in row - State Highway 1/ Carmen Road

KiwiRail’s repairs to its rail crossing at Carmen Road (part of State Highway 1), between Main South Road and Waterloo Road, Hornby, will create detours for north and southbound drivers two weekends in a row.

The work starts this Friday night at 7 pm, 22 July, running through to 6 am Monday morning at the latest.

The second weekend’s work runs from Friday night, 29 July, to Monday, 1 August.

Electronic signs have been warning drivers of the weekend detours for several days. Drivers can still get into The Hub Hornby and all the shops in the area as usual, but the north and southbound exits and entries via Carmen Road will be closed over the two weekends.

Detour routes

The detour route for northbound traffic (towards the airport) which would normally take Carmen Road off Main South Road is in place before the Hub Hornby ie Parker St, Gilberthorpes Road, Buchanans Road. Southbound drivers on Carmen Road will be detoured onto Waterloo Road then Parker St.

Drivers might also like to use Pound Road and Buchanans Road as detours.

“The NZ Transport Agency thanks all drivers and road users for taking extra care while this essential repair work is happening over the two weekend periods and watching out for cyclists and pedestrians,” said Transport Agency Journey Manager Lee Wright.
