Hertz Hitch Hikers Enters the Sky Tower Challenge
Auckland, New Zealand July 21, 2016 – For the first time, Hertz New Zealand is entering the Step Up Sky Tower Stair
Challenge in support of the Leukemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand foundation (LBC). The ‘Hertz Hitch Hikers’, along with 99 other organisations will race to the
top of the iconic Sky Tower on Friday 5th August.
Hertz is getting involved in the 52 floor, 1,103 step challenge to raise awareness and to support those affected by
leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma and other blood related conditions.
The Hertz Hitch Hikers consist of five excited Hertz employees who together will conquer the Sky Tower stairs.
“Our Hertz Hitch Hiker team is already in training for this mental and physical challenge,” said Mark Righton, Hertz New
Zealand Country Manager. “We’re really proud of our team and the wider Hertz community for getting behind this great
cause, and we’re looking forward to cheering them on at the finish line.”
All proceeds raised by the Hertz Hitch Hikers will be donated to the LBC to support individuals and families affected by
blood cancer, and will allow the LBC to provide ongoing education, research and support to the wider community.
When Alicia Webley from the Hertz Hitch Hikers was asked why she was undertaking this mammoth task she said, “I wanted
to help a home-grown charity and to know that I have played a minor role in helping support the LBC charity.” Aaron
Thompson from Hertz Hitch Hikers continued; “To be able to dedicate a day to this charity and to show support to all
those people impacted by cancer by climbing the Sky Tower is just something small that I am proud to be able to
participate in”.
The Step Up Sky Tower Stair Challenge is the only annual event which allows local businesses in New Zealand to climb the
tallest structure in the Southern Hemisphere. Last year’s competition saw over $346,000 in donations being raised for
LBC.
