Slip on State Highway 6 Haast to Fox Glacier – road closed
The NZ Transport Agency closed State Highway 6 between Haast and Fox Glacier after 8 am today due to a slip at Black Creek – between Fox Glacier and Karangaroa.
The slip was caused by heavy rain which brought down vegetation across the road. Contractors were working to clear the road with an update expected around 11 am. Check this map – black pointers are closures, or the table version.
There has been some surface flooding due to the heavy rain and strong winds along the coastal highway, particularly between Haast and Whataroa, half-way to Hokitika.
· Check also the Westland District Council web page which notes in its Public Notice section that Jackson Bay Road is also closed due to slips and may take a couple of days to clear.
