Unleash your creative potential with Redefine!
Redefine is a national event held in Hawke’s Bay, it’s a competition for all ages. Simply purchase any item from a recognised charity shop and repurpose it into something new, fresh and ultimately unrecognisable from what it was before!
There are six fun categories to enter before 31 July 2016, with great cash prizes up for grabs. All entries will be displayed and judged at the main Redefine event on 20 August at the Havelock North Function Centre in Hawke’s Bay. It will be the highlight of a great weekend in the sunny Hawke’s Bay and even if entering is not your thing, Redefine offers an enjoyable day of pop-up charity shopping, learning through creative demonstrations, workshops, and children’s activities. It goes without saying that keen charity shoppers and crafters alike will be in their element!
Our 2015 overall winner, Carla Allen – who repurposed a very ordinary chest of drawers into what can only be described as a creative masterpiece – encourages people of all ages to take part. “The Redefine event was visually stimulating – seeing all the various pop-up shops, as well as everyone's creations,” Carla says. “I loved the creative process involved in the entry – especially giving new life to pre-loved items. It was great to have won last year. I was a bit overwhelmed by the unexpected success of my entry!”
Shirley Collins, PSEC’s Fundraising, Communication and Marketing Manager says, “Being mindful of waste and repurposing ‘pre-loved’ items – as opposed to buying new all the time – is a strong trend world-wide.
Redefine maximises on this trend by encouraging people to not only get creative, but support charity shops at the same time.” Shirley adds, “It is estimated that the New Zealand market has over 700 charity shops, with a net income of $100 million – an enormous contribution to the charity sector. If you manage an op shop get in touch to take part in this great event too.”
“We had an entry come in this week from a little girl who entered the ‘Hat Trick’ category. Her mother included a note that said although it had taken her daughter a good few weeks to complete, she had loved every minute of it, and it had taught her new skills. It is wonderful to encourage creativity in children and adults alike – and takes them offline! The results – at least judging by the quality of entries received last year – are well worth coming to have a look at on 20 August!”
Tickets are $10 each (gold coin donation for children under 15) and can be purchased online via redefine.net.nz, or on the day, if still available.
