Date announced for “No Limits” parking
5 July 2016
For immediate release
From 1 August it will be possible to park all day in the same space provided you feed the meter.
Palmerston North City Council has been trialling three hour limits but decided late last month to remove limits altogether for 12 months, starting 1 August. For the remainder of July the time limit on metered spaces will remain at three hours.
It has also been decided that free parking till 11am on Saturday mornings will be made permanent following a great response from both the public and retailers. This is already in effect.
“The parking trials have proved really successful and we’ve had a lot of positive feedback, especially from retailers,” says Mayor Grant Smith.
“The introduction of no limits parking will make it even easier for people to spend more time enjoying our city centre. Increasing the accessibility and vibrancy of our central city brings huge benefits for Palmerstonians and will help attract people here from all over the region.”
The City Council’s roading team will be busy making the required changes to the parking system over the next few weeks.
“We will update the on-street signage and make the required adjustments to the Frog parking system in time for the changeover on 1 August,’ says Roading Manager Graeme Tong.
“In the meantime, it’s important for the public to remember that the three hour limit still applies as indicated by the current on-street signage.”
