Serious Crash - Taupo - Bay of Plenty
Police and emergency services are at the scene of a serious crash on SH1 at Waitahanui, south of Taupo.
Six people from two cars were initially reported injured in the crash just after 5.30p.m.
Two of those involved sustained serious injuries and the police serious crash unit is attending.
Police are aware that a total closure of the highway involves a lengthy detour around the western side of the lake and will endeavour to keep the highway partially open.
One lane is operating at present however delays can be expected for some time as the scene is processed and cleared.
Motorists are asked to remain patient and take care when passing the scene.
