Len Brown kicks port decision down the road to save legacy

Len Brown kicks port decision down the road to save legacy of cost and homelessness

"The ports report to be released today is the result of a clever deferral by the mayor who wants to preserve his legacy by retaining an ideologically left wing council," says John Palino.

"Rather than making a decision which would either break his moral contract with campaign donors, the Maritime Union, or have his key backers voted off council, the outgoing mayor chose to throw a hospital pass to the next mayor of Auckland.

"In doing so he hopes to retain his legacy of an overpriced train set and the most damaging housing policy in the developed world.

"Voters should think very carefully before selecting their preferred counsellor and find out exactly where they stand and how they've voted on the port.

"I can confirm that I will abide by the report's key recommendation. No politics, no time wasting.

"What the report recommends I will run with, with the only caveat that investment required in the first 6 years does not crowd out spending to deliver more housing," said Palino.
