Hutt City Council sets rates for year ahead
Hutt City Council set the rates for the 2016/17 year, with the average rates increase across all ratepayers set at 2.7%.
Lower Hutt Mayor Ray Wallace says, “We are committed to seeing our city grow and this requires investment, but we don’t want to burden our community with unreasonable rates or debt increases. We believe we’ve struck a balance, and are pleased to have kept increases to rates at the lowest possible level.
“We’ve enjoyed a great couple of years with the city-wide development of new facilities that help stimulate economic and social growth, and we are delighted that 84% of respondents agreed with Council continuing to invest in rejuvenation and infrastructure projects, as outlined in the Long Term Plan”.
Hutt City Council’s average rates increase of 2.7% is the lowest of the territorial authorities in the Wellington region. The change in rates for the average property value in each category is listed below.

Hutt City Council determined key projects and initiatives for the year ahead at a Community Plan Committee meeting on 2 June. This followed consultation on the draft Annual Plan, more than 1200 written submissions were received, and more than 110 submissions were presented to Council in person in late May.
