Rotorua Top Dogs to Feature at Fieldays

Chelsea Marriner and her 11 Ultimate Canines will fly the Rotorua Lakes Council banner at the New Zealand Agricultural Fieldays starting today in Hamilton when they perform their impressive trick displays and agility achievements.

Chelsea and her award-winning dogs are featuring at Fieldays for the ninth year in a row.

The invitation to return this year means they will be among the first to perform in the brand new Demonstrations area. Chelsea has also organised a dog handling heat for the Rural Bachelors event.

The Mamaku-based dog trainer is passionate about responsible dog ownership and came to the council with a partnership proposition that animal control supervisor Kevin Coutts said was hard to turn down.

“Chelsea has a wonderful way with dogs and we’ve worked very closely with her over a number of years.

“Our partnership means Chelsea will promote us at Fieldays and also do school shows as part of our dog education programme around the Rotorua area where she will talk about responsible dog ownership.

“That includes the need to register, desex and chip dogs and how to stay safe around dogs,” said Coutts.

Chelsea and her Ultimate Canines made it to the grand finals of New Zealand’s Got Talent in 2008 and to the semi-finals four years later.

They have also performed at the Royal Easter Show, the Southern, Central Districts and Northland Field Days and a number of A & P shows around the country.

“We are New Zealand’s top team in the high energy sport of dog agility and jumpers. My dogs hold many records and have managed some very notable achievements,” she said.

In May 2010, using a borrowed dog, Chelsea won gold in the individual jumping event to become world champion at the World Agility Championships in England.
