Young People Weave their Way at Capital E
These July School Holidays, Capital E weaves some winter magic into young people’s school break with a full programme
entailing digital workshops, live performances and a brand new interactive installation from Monday 11 July – Saturday
23 July 2016.
Young people get stuck into weaving wonders in Weave Your Way at Capital E’s creative space on Queens Wharf. Upstairs in
MediaLab, –there will be 3D model making workshops, along with augmented reality in Design Your Reality and check out
how visual effects are executed in Visual Effects. Capital E’s new programme, Daring to be Different in the OnTV Studio
will focus on reality television and people who want a full explosion of Capital E can check out jam-packed workshops in
Digital Day at Capital E as well as the Ultimate Capital E Experience at the Hannah Playhouse and Capital E. Finally,
Capital E presents the premiere of Hinepau at the Hannah Playhouse before it hits the road on a NZ tour.
Kids of all ages will get to play, make and create their way in Weave Your Way in our free creative play space. Expect
anything from flax, paper strips, to strings, Loom Bands and winter woollies as kids weave their magic into an
ever-changing forest and village. Capital E will also be working to make the longest finger knit in Wellington and will
host a Loom Band Extravaganza competition. There will be a series of pop up events including storytelling sessions in
Kōrero Harakeke, and pop-up entertainment with crafts and PlayShop.
MediaLab will host inspiring workshops for young people aged 8-14 in Design Your Reality, a workshop on 3D model making
and augmented reality, and Visual Effects ideal for those budding film-makers interested in capturing cool visual effect
shots for their movies.
Young people aged 10-14 will get to showcase their competitive side in the OnTV Studio as they create a reality TV show
centred around New Zealand’s most different personality in Daring to Be Different.
Children aged 8-10 who’re hungry for the full-on digital experience at Capital E will be offered a Digital Day workshop,
taking on an Alien Invasion in the OnTV Studio and creating original soundtracks for their show in the MediaLab before
watching their masterpieces on our big screen.
Capital E presents Hinepau, a fresh piece of theatre ideal for children aged 7+ at the Hannah Playhouse from Monday 18 –
Saturday 23 July. Based on the book of the same name by Gavin Bishop and originally devised by Rachel House, Jamie
McCaskill, Erina Daniels, Stephen Tamarapa and Maria Walker, this will be a not-to-miss show for Wellingtonians. Plus
Capital E will be hosting a kid’s only event where audiences will get to enjoy a show, meet the cast and chow down on a
fish ‘n’ chips dinner.
Capital E Director Stuart Grant says, “We are excited to have acclaimed director, Jamie MacCaskill returning to craft
this new version of the play he originally performed in and helped devise as a young actor over ten years ago. . We’re
thrilled to continue working on this production with a stellar new team.”
Finally, Capital E’s July school holiday programme features the popular Ultimate Capital E Experience where young people
aged 8-10 will get the best of what Capital E has to offer; including an animated weaving workshop in MediaLab, watching
Hinepau and meeting the cast at the Hannah Playhouse, then taking their inspiration from the morning into our OnTV
Studio and MediaLab for an afternoon of digital creativity!
