Health & Wellbeing in Business Award Launched in Rotorua
Rotorua businesses that take good care of their staff are to be recognised with a new award.
Healthy Families Rotorua has created a Health & Wellbeing category in the Westpac Rotorua Business Excellence Awards.
Healthy Families Rotorua manager Leanne Morehu says the award is aimed at acknowledging workplaces that encourage, support and promote good nutrition, physical activity, alcohol reduction, and smokefree environments and lifestyles.
“A healthier Rotorua starts in the places where we live, work, learn and play. We want to highlight those businesses who are demonstrating social responsibility in terms of their employees’ health, and who have developed sustainable wellness practices and cultures within their workplaces.”
Mrs Morehu says Healthy Families Rotorua is also looking to connect with businesses who have not yet engaged in a workplace wellness programme.
“The award gives us access to over 600 organisations who are part of the Rotorua Chamber of Commerce. The Health & Wellbeing criteria will help highlight for those businesses the types of initiatives being undertaken by other local workplaces to prioritise the health and wellbeing of their staff.”
She said examples included nutrition policies, catering guidelines, supporting sensible drinking, installing healthier vending machines, standing desks, encouraging regular breaks, holding walking meetings, and allowing staff time during work hours to exercise.
The Healthy Families Rotorua Health & Wellbeing Award is open to Rotorua businesses of all sizes and from any industry.
The Westpac Rotorua Business Excellence Awards will be held in October and entries close on July 31.
