Work to start on new bore

3 June 2016

MEDIA RELEASE

Work to start on new bore

Palmerston North City Council has engaged Wanganui Well Drillers Ltd to drill a new water supply bore at Papaioea Park.

The bore is needed to create an additional water source for the city, with work commencing from Tuesday next week (7th June 2016) The new bore will boost supply as water flow volumes from the two existing bores on the site (one constructed in 1965 and one in 2001) have declined over time.

Council’s Senior Project Engineer, Katherine Stannard said the well drillers will be on site for seven weeks, and during this time there will be construction noise on weekdays between the hours of 7:30am and 6:00pm.

“We do apologise for any noise above the usual levels during this time,” she said

During the first week of construction, the outer casing of the bore will be driven by hammer. This is expected to be the noisiest activity. Following this the main bore casing will be drilled.

Towards the end of drilling, the contractor is required to conduct a continuous 5 day flow test. Over this period, a generator will be operating continuously on site.
