Local arts to get a boost

Local arts to get a boost

Dunedin (Tuesday, 24 May 2016) – Helping artists access funding is the aim of a partnership between the Dunedin City Council and the Arts Foundation.

The DCC has provided $5000 to support a Dunedin Boosted Ambassador. Boosted (www.boosted.org.nz) is a not-for-profit crowdfunding site for the arts.

Launched in 2013, Boosted has helped raise more than $2 million for NZ artists and groups, including some outstanding Dunedin projects. Time to have some more!

DCC Community Arts Advisor Cara Paterson says, “The partnership will enable a Dunedin Boosted Ambassador to be working directly with artists and arts organisations to use crowdfunding to build their networks, increase financial support for their projects and promote themselves to new and unexplored audiences.”

Kate Ricketts from Boosted says, “Having a real person to talk to, a local artist who has run their own successful Boosted campaign, is key in upskilling and supporting more Dunedin The first of a series of workshops will be held on Wednesday, 1 June at 5.30pm at the Dunedin Fringe, 26 Princes Street. It is a one hour chat about crowdfunding and how our local artists and arts organisations can use Boosted to get their projects off the ground.

Dunedin Boosted Ambassador Dudley Benson says, “This workshop is for anyone who has a creative project, or is part of a creative organisation, and is interested to have a chat and learn more about how Boosted could work for them.”

Creative Dunedin Partnership Chair Cr Aaron Hawkins says, “At the same as we have committed, through Ara Toi, to growing our creative community locally, support from Creative New Zealand is contracting nationally. This makes it more important than ever that we help Dunedin artists develop new networks of financial support. Having a Boosted Ambassador on the ground will certainly make that challenge easier.”

Artists or arts organisations who wish to participate in the first workshop should contact Dunedin Boosted Ambassador Dudley Benson at dudley@boosted.org.nz. Five other workshops are planned over coming months.
