Donated shoes will help many this winter

The Wellington City Mission is grateful to be receiving close to 300 pairs of quality shoes from Shoe Clinic, worth approximately $60,000.

Donated by their Wellington and Lower Hutt stores, this is the third year Shoe Clinic has stepped up to provide hardy footwear for those who are most in need.

This donation comes at a particularly useful time as The Mission, and those who access their vital services, prepare for the challenges of winter. The colder months bring an increase in expenses, forcing struggling families and individuals to choose between food, heating, and healthcare. For many, purchasing suitable clothing and footwear will not be possible.

Wellington City Missioner Rev. Tric Malcolm explained: “When money is tight, our young people end up missing out on opportunities we often think of as normal – sport, after school activities, school trips. This generosity from Shoe Clinic helps give those opportunities back. When we help ease the load for people in one area, such as good quality shoes, it means they can feel confident in providing for their families in other areas, such as rent, power and food.”

Shoe Clinic director Hamish French said: “This is our third year donating shoes to The Wellington City Mission and the reason we continually do so is because we know that they will ensure that people in real need will receive them. They do a wonderful job in looking after Wellingtonians and it’s really rewarding to know that we at Shoe Clinic can contribute in helping our local community with these shoes.”
