Winter concerts at National War Memorial

16 May 2016

Winter concerts at National War Memorial

Wellingtonians and visitors to the capital are invited to attend six Sunday concerts over winter at Pukeahu National War Memorial Park.

“It’s an exciting programme to extend the use of Pukeahu beyond purely ceremonial events,” says Paul Riley, Pukeahu National War Memorial Curator.

“We’re encouraging Sunday visitors who may want to take a look around the Great War Exhibition in the Dominion Museum to then wander down the steps to the Hall of Memories, enjoy a 45-minute concert featuring some of our finest classical musicians and then attend the ‘Soldier’s Story’ reading and Last Post ceremony outside, at the Tomb of the Unknown Warrior.”

The concerts begin this Sunday (22 May) with the RNZAF Band Woodwind Trio playing music from the great masters. The concerts continue monthly through to October.

The programme:

22 May RNZAF Band woodwind trio

Music from the masters: Bach, Haydn, Mozart and more

19 June Anon Vocal Ensemble

Programme of war, loss and remembrance

10 July RNZAF Band flute recital

A reflective programme of solo repertoire for flute,
