A severe weather warning has been issued for Westland & Buller, with heavy thundstorms & rain forecast for the region.
The following State Highways are affected by high winds this morning:
· SH80 Aoraki Mt Cook to Ben Ohau - Strong winds
· SH8 Fairlie to Twizel - Strong winds
· SH73 Springfield to Arthurs Pass & Porters Pass
The following State Highways are closed
or have lane restrictions.
· NEW: SH73 Porters Pass - A logging truck has rolled at the top of the pass blocking both lanes.
· SH67 Hector to Little Wanganui - The road is now open to one lane.
· SH6 Murchison to Inangahua is down to one lane due to fallen trees.
· SH6 Westport to Greymouth down to one lane due to rock falls.
As usual, high sided vehicles
and motorcyclists are urged to take extra care when driving
in these areas.
West Coast update:
SH67 north of Westport: open with crews cleaning up debris in this area today. Manual stop/go traffic management.
SH7 Trees and branches and surface water is being cleared through the Lewis Pass.
SH73 Arthur's Pass/ Otira – minor rockfalls around the Rock Shelter and Rocky Point – being cleared by crews.
SH6 between Greymouth and Westport – several slips will be cleared today. There is a slip at 10 Mile, due to be cleared this morning, the road is single lane until then.
