Dangerous Gums being removed from Titirangi
Dangerous Gums being removed from Titirangi
A
group of dead Gum trees overhanging the road on Titirangi
Reserve (Kaiti hill) are set to be felled next week.
From 16 to 20 May Council contractors, Roberts Tree Surgeons will be removing the dangerous trees.
Due to the close proximity to the road, the work will cause some traffic delays for anyone travelling up Titirangi via Queens Drive by Te Poho o Rawiri marae.
Planning and Development Group Manager, Nedine Thatcher-Swann says “For safety reasons we’re being proactive, the gum trees we’re removing could pose a real risk of falling during the colder months when the wind picks up.”
During this period contractors will be working from 7am to 5pm and traffic will be managed by manual stop/go signs.
We advise people to use the portside track entrance along Rakaiatane Road if they wish to use the reserve’s facilities during this time.
The wood cut from the felled gums will be made available free to the public at Titirangi’s lower carpark on Queens Drive.
This firewood will be pre-cut into biscuits and is for taking away only. Do not cut or saw any wood on site.
Please wait until our contractors are finished before collecting firewood, and leave the carpark tidy.
If there are any delays or work is completed early we will announce it on Facebook.
