Gentle giants new star attraction at Agrodome

Rotorua, 30 April 2016: A trio of gentle giants, with a penchant for movie roles has a new home at Rotorua's Agrodome, one of the Ngai Tahu Tourism experiences.

Giant Clydesdale's Jon Boy, Cid and Egon will soon make the move south from the North Shore's Devonport to their new home in the outskirts of Rotorua.

The trio have clip-clopped gently around the streets of Devonport with carriages full of tourists and children for decades and will continue to show tourists' the sights, this time at 350 hectare working sheep and cattle farm and tourist attraction the Agrodome.

The trio have never lived apart and after carrying owner Dan Duffy to his final resting place recently in Franklin the family decided to sell Dan's beloved horses and were determined to keep the main wagon-pulling trio together. They are over the moon that the horses are moving to a farm and continuing to work.

Used to being in the limelight Jon Boy, Cid and Egon's movie appearances include the Hobbit and Xena Princess Warrior.

Fraser Leddie, Regional General Manager says, "The trio will be a welcome addition to the Agrodome and we're pleased that we can offer them a great place to live as well as the opportunity to continue to work and show tourists around the farm.

"It made perfect sense to keep the three of them together and I'm sure they will thrive at the Agrodome."

The Agrodome has been one of New Zealand’s best-loved visitor attractions for more than 40 years and has won the coveted New Zealand Tourism Award for the New Zealand's Best Visitor Attraction a number of times, and more than once awarded for its outstanding service and contribution to the New Zealand Tourism Industry.

The Agrodome is not just a visitor attraction; it's also a 350-acre (160-hectare) working sheep and cattle farm with 1200 sheep and 120 beef cattle, as well as an olive grove and orchard.

At the farm you can meet 19 breeds of sheep, hand-milk a cow, watch sheep shearing, hand feed and take photos with sheep, cattle, deer, llamas, ostrich, pigs and alpacas or get off-road for a true farm tour experience.
