Ruapehu Communities Have Lots to Say on Draft EAP Proposals

Ruapehu District Council (RDC) has had a fantastic response to its draft Exceptions Annual Plan (EAP) consultation with over 130 submissions expected in the final count.

RDC Chief Executive Clive Manley said that Council wanted to thank everyone who took the time to find out about the issues and engage with the consultation process.

“This consultation has had a fantastic level of engagement from the community and Council is really pleased that people have been so keen to have their say,” he said.

“It is fantastic to see local communities so energised about discussing what they believe needs to be done to take their own township and Ruapehu forward.”

“We had excellent numbers attending all our meetings and over the consultation period have had some robust discussions on Council’s draft EAP proposals to reallocate spending to support tourism sector development, digital enablement and the building of multi-purpose community facility in Ohākune.”

“People taking the time to inform themselves and then have their say is a vital part of Council being able to make decisions that reflect community needs and wants.”

“Over the next week all the submissions will be collated which will form the basis of Council’s hearings on 11 and 13 May.”

“People who have chosen to speak in support of their submission will be contacted shortly to determine a time over these two days that suits them best.”

“Deliberations on the draft EAP is scheduled for 24 May and adoption on 14 June.”
