Annual Plan submitters speak to Council
Horizons Regional Council’s Annual Plan submission hearings are taking place on 27 and 28 April with 36 submitters bringing their points to the Council table.
A total of 91 submissions were received this year which is an increase of 12 from the last Annual Plan.
Horizons chairman Bruce Gordon says the Council received a wide variety of submissions this year with most falling under three activities outlined in the Annual Plan consultation document.
“These three activities were around our role in regional growth, changes to river schemes and changes to transport,” says Mr Gordon.
“In general there is support for Council’s involvement in regional growth and development as well as changes to our transport options; in particular the Waikanae to Levin service. However, there are still ongoing issues to consider such as rate affordability and increases with regards to the June 2015 floods and the low dairy payout.”
Both hearings will take place in Palmerston North and are open to the public. An agenda is available on the Strategy and Policy Committee page at www.horizons.govt.nz
Council will deliberate on the submissions on 10 and 11 May and the final Annual Plan is expected to be adopted on 31 May 2016.
The Annual Plan consultation document was sent to approximately 96,000 households in the Region from 18 March. Submissions closed 12 April.
