At about 1615 on 16th April there was a sole vehicle crash incident on SH24 Te Poi, near Matamata.
The mobile home-style van was involved in a fire that claimed the life of a female passenger.
Her details are yet to be released.
The male driver was flown to Waikato Hospital with serious burns to his body, and is currently in the hospital’s intensive care unit.
Police will not be releasing any more information until the vehicle has been inspected by Serious Crash Unit and fire investigation personnel.
