Burwood Birthing Unit has temporarily reopened

The Burwood Birthing Unit has temporarily reopened and is now accepting women for birthing and post-natal care.

Staff were given the go ahead to move back in this afternoon after asbestos test results came back clear earlier today.
The unit will remain open until June 30th 2016, when it will be permanently closed and demolished at a later date, yet to be confirmed.

Canterbury DHB is committed to providing the right primary maternity services for the community and will continue to work closely with all key stakeholders, including Lead Maternity Carers, staff and the community to find an agreed way forward for future provisions of maternity services in Christchurch.
