Taramakau Road-Rail Bridge overnight delays on Sunday night

Taramakau Road-Rail Bridge overnight delays this Sunday night

People who need to get across the Taramakau road-rail bridge this Sunday night, 17 April, are advised to do so before 6 pm when resurfacing work begins. Work will run all night long, with openings on each hour, so long as the weather remains dry.

The bridge, part of State Highway 6, will be opened on the hour between 6 pm Sunday and 6 am Monday morning, 18 April, to let traffic through.

“The Transport Agency apologises for this inconvenience, however this work is for essential maintenance and needs to be undertaken at the least disruptive time possible,” said Transport Agency Journey Manager Lee Wright.

Although there is a detour via Lake Brunner, it adds more than an hour to the journey between Greymouth and Christchurch, so drivers would be just as well advised to wait if they miss the opening at the start of each hour, she said.
