Rotorua Rallies Behind Fiji Appeal

Rotorua Rallies Behind Fiji Appeal

Rotorua District Residents and Ratepayers

Just over a month ago Cyclone Winston killed over forty Fijians and wrecked the country’s infrastructure. Raj Kumar, Springfield Superette owner and councillor candidate, quickly organised an appeal through two networks; Indian dairy owners and the Rotorua District Residents and Ratepayers.

The results show that Rotorua has a huge heart.

About half a ton of canned food, clothes, books and household utensils were donated. They were sorted at Sunset Price Cutters and sent to Fijian churches for distribution to the areas most badly affected.

Rotorua’s Indian dairy owners also put out collection containers for loose change. The public donated about $400 at each of five dairies with another $1500 coming in to the Springfield Superette. This cash went through the same distribution system.

Raj and Reynold Macpherson [pictured] thank all donors most warmly for their generosity.
