Council-owned land in Riccarton to be cleared
The demolition of Robbie's Bar and Bistro on Clarence Street will soon be underway, allowing for the subdivision and
sale of the Christchurch City Council-owned land it occupies.
"We were unable to do this with the Robbie's building still intact, because it straddled the land we want to sell as
well as the land we're considering building the new Riccarton Community Centre on," says Darren Moses, the Council's
Manager Capital Delivery – Community.
"The tenancy lease for the building expired in February, so now we can get the ball rolling. The other buildings on the
site are going to remain where they are, and the proceeds of the land sale will go towards the new facility too."
Demolition will proceed in stages, and the whole process should be completed in 2–3 months. The Riccarton Community
Centre is still in the design stages.
