Hardaker has worked hard for Hamilton but there are still
challenges
Property Council Waikato Branch wishes to acknowledge Julie Hardaker’s efforts as mayor of Hamilton, following her announcement to step down later this year.
Waikato Branch President Thomas Gibbons says Julie Hardaker has worked hard for Hamilton city which can be seen in the legacy she leaves behind.
"Mayor Hardaker has served the city well over the last six years. When she came to office, the city's finances were perceived as a mess.
“Now the city sits on a sounder footing. She is known as New Zealand's hardest working mayor and we can see why.”
Property Council believes Mayor Hardaker brought a strong governance culture to Hamilton City Council and has engaged constructively with stakeholders across a range of sectors.
"There is currently a real sense of positivity and prosperity about Hamilton, even though constraints and challenges to reach its full potential still remain.
“But the platform to advance is now there and the property sector will play a critical part in ensuring Hamilton thrives and is the place of choice to live in and work.
"Julie’s departure leaves a significant gap but provides an opportunity for the next mayor to ensure council plays the part of a positive enabler for development, business, and the community as a whole.”
The Waikato Branch is releasing a new manifesto which will outline the steps to unlock Hamilton’s growth potential later this year to coincide with local elections.
