Big Political Wish Lists - But Where's the Money Coming From?

16 MARCH 2016
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Responding to the reports from Auckland Mayoral candidate, Phil Goff, that he supports a new stadium on the waterfront, Ratepayers’ Alliance spokesperson, Jo Holmes, says:

“We have already seen candidates floating some very expensive items such as light rail. Now Mr Goff is calling for Ports of Auckland to be relocated for a large waterfront stadium.”

“There is nothing stopping Mayoral candidates pledging support for big ticket projects for Auckland. But in doing so they need to be up front with how much the projects will cost, and how that cost will be borne by ratepayers across Auckland.”

“Last year Aucklanders were whacked with 9.9% rates increases with little warning. Candidates owe it to ratepayers to be up front with how much their pledges will cost, prior to voters casting their ballots.”
