The Arts are Alive in Auckland this autumn

Auckland is set to once again remind visitors why ‘The Show Never Stops’, with a bumper line up of arts and culture events taking place across the city this autumn.

Auckland’s arts and culture scene thrives all year round, but with such a concentrated array of events over the coming months, Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development (ATEED) is taking the opportunity to introduce a new seasonal marketing initiative; ‘Auckland’s Autumn of the Arts’.

ATEED has partnered with fellow Auckland Council-controlled organisation Regional Facilities Auckland (RFA) to create the new domestic marketing campaign which will encourage more New Zealanders to visit in the shoulder season, between March and June.

ATEED Chief Executive, Brett O’Riley, says: “A vibrant arts and culture sector is fundamental to the fabric of a global city, and we want people in our domestic markets to start thinking about the exceptional arts and culture Auckland has on offer as a reason to travel here each autumn.

“Events such as the Pop-Up Globe, where the works of Shakespeare are being performed in the world’s first full-scale temporary replica Globe Theatre, demonstrate the calibre of productions which make Auckland a must-visit destination.”

RFA Chief Executive, Chris Brooks, says: “Auckland is a great place to escape to for a long weekend or to catch a few shows. We have world-class theatres, museums, galleries, and outdoor arenas offering a rich cultural programme.

“In the next few months alone, we have the Auckland Arts Festival, the Auckland Writers Festival, the NZ International Comedy Festival, a major South American exhibition at Auckland Art Gallery, the critically acclaimed dance companyNederlands Dans Theater, and popular musicals Flashdance and Evita. Our arts and culture offering has never been more compelling.”

The ‘Arts are Alive: Auckland’s Autumn of the Arts’ campaign kicks off today under the ‘AKL: The Show Never Stops’ domestic tourism proposition. It will be featured in Auckland’s key fly and drive markets in a range of forms, including in cinemas, online, in print publications, outdoor and through the airports and airline channels.
