Celebrate your local parks with Parks Week

HUTT CITY COUNCIL NEWS RELEASE

03 March 2016

Celebrate your local parks with Parks Week

From 5-13 March there will be a range of activities across many of Lower Hutt’s favourite parks, as part of this year’s Parks Week.

Hutt City Council has teamed up with the New Zealand Recreation Association and Parks and Leisure Australia for a trans-Tasman celebration of local parks and the vital role they play in our communities.

Council Recreation Assistant Rebecca Grigg says, “We have some wonderful parks here in Lower Hutt and I’m looking forward to seeing people out enjoying the events we’re putting on.

“There are two fun competitions to get families out exploring.

“A daily scavenger hunt invites people to find a secret spot in parks across the city and take a selfie, then upload it with the hashtag #HuntInTheHutt to be in to win awesome prizes.

“The Playground Hunt will be taking place in four playgrounds where secret words have been hidden. If you find two words you can enter to win prizes, and there’s a whole phrase to discover. To enter you can collect a Playground Hunt passport from any of our eight libraries.”

Other activities include outdoor story-time sessions and all-ages exercise like Tai Chi.

Events are listed on the Council website’s events section huttcity.govt.nz/events, and on facebook.com/inthehutt
