Education exchange agreement with China
Number 26 Middle School in Xi’an, China and Hutt Valley High School have signed a cooperation agreement, with the aim of boosting the international programme, including student exchanges and staff training.
The agreement was signed on 24 February by Mr Liu Junbo, Principal of No 26 Middle School, and Hutt Valley High School Principal Ross Sinclair, with Mayor Ray Wallace as witness.
Mayor Wallace said, “Xi’an has been Lower Hutt’s Sister City since 2000, and we are really keen to make the most of this civic connection.
“Educational exchanges are a fantastic opportunity for our students and teachers to experience another culture, which leads to so much self-development and greater awareness of the world around us. These exchanges also form an important basis for creating other opportunities with China.”
Lyn House, Hutt Valley High School’s International Director, said, “We’re very excited to work with No 26 Middle School to build a relationship together. Our intention is to start small and ensure there is lasting co-operation to the benefit of both schools.
“During their visit the delegation got to meet two outstanding International Students currently studying at Hutt Valley High School. It was nice to observe them asking our students so many questions.”
The delegates and hosts were served dumplings, a traditional Chinese dish, by Hutt Valley High School’s award winning business studies group, MOON dumplings, who are also international students.
The Xi’an delegation was here as part of an Education New Zealand led delegation to Wellington and Auckland.
