Summer Concert Series Big Win for Auckland

Regional Facilities Auckland (RFA) has wrapped up a bumper summer concert season, boosting Auckland’s economy by $16.8m.

More than 171,000 fans enjoyed a sold-out summer line-up which included Fleetwood Mac, Ed Sheeran, rock band AC/DC and the Taste of Auckland food and wine festival at Western Springs Stadium, and Our:House at Mt Smart Stadium.

RFA CEO Chris Brooks says the results show that Auckland is a major player when it comes to world-class entertainment.

“Securing major international music acts for Auckland brings tremendous benefits to the city. The Ed Sheeran and Fleetwood Mac concerts at Mt Smart Stadium were huge tourism and entertainment drawcards, generating 80,030 visitor nights in total.”

“Importantly, concert-goers had a great experience, with satisfaction scores for fans attending the three outdoor concerts at over 94%. RFA is helping to position Auckland as a dynamic, lively destination offering premium shows and entertainment on par with any other big city.”

During February, other popular RFA events included four concerts at Auckland Zoo – Fly My Pretties, Stan Walker, Bic Runga and Tiny Ruins, and Hear Them Roar. March will see, for the first time, the Auckland City Limits festival, to be held at Western Springs Stadium. This is aligned with the major Austin City Limits festival in Texas, and Auckland will be its first international extension.
