Draft Annual Plan to be adopted this Thursday
29 February 2016
Nelson City Council’s draft annual plan for the 2016/17 financial year is due to be adopted by Council on Thursday this week.
The draft plan outlines exceptions to the 2015 – 2025 Long Term Plan.
The majority of the work plan outlined in the Long Term Plan continues on, as Council strives to make Nelson an even better place.
Mayor Rachel Reese says she is pleased to be able to present an Annual Plan with so few variations from the Long Term Plan.
“This is as a result of considered decision making that is standing the test of time. There is a focus on keeping the work programme on track. It is important that we keep up the momentum as we make progress towards our vision for Nelson.”
Council is producing a consultation document which will outline the key projects set out in the plan. The consultation period will run from 11 March to 11 April.
Project highlights in the consultation document
include:
Collaborating with Tasman District Council on
the development of a joint regional landfill
Developing a
1000-1200 seat flexible theatre space within the Trafalgar
Centre, with the use of curtaining and temporary seating
($400,000)
Developing Nelson’s waterfront, starting in
2016/17 with the design of a Haven Precinct
($150,000)
Central Business District enhancements,
starting in 2016/17 with consideration of an upgrade to
Church St.
The draft annual plan also includes a decrease
in the general rate increase from 3.4% (specified in the
Long Term Plan) to 3.1%.
Submissions can be made online, from 11 March, at nelson.govt.nz.
