Notice to Boil Water for Toko
Notice to Boil Water for Toko
Routine tests of the Toko water supply have detected the bacteria Escherichia coli (known as e-coli) and investigations are now underway to find the source.
A boil water notice for all residents connected to the Toko town water supply is now in place until further notice.
The Ministry of Health advises residents to;
• Only consuming boiled or bottled water at work
• Boil or treat all water from taps before drinking, brushing teeth or using it in food preparation
• Boil all water used to make ice before freezing
Stratford District Council advises residents that;
• Bringing water to the boil is sufficient to kill all bugs (water does not require prolonged boiling)
• Water needs to be boiled even if the smell or taste of chlorine is present
• If water cannot be boiled, treat it by adding 1 teaspoon of household bleach per 10 litres of water and leave for 30 minutes
• Anyone showing symptoms of sickness should visit their doctor as soon as possible
Council is in regular contact with the Taranaki District Health Board and is taking advice for these precautionary measures.
Council is working to rectify the issue and residents are advised to continue boiling water until the boil water notice is lifted.
Further information and updates will be provided on Council’s website, www.stratford.govt.nz or alternatively contact our Service Centre, (06) 765 6099.
