Democratic Deficit Made Clear Today at Extraordinary Council Meeting
Commenting from today’s extraordinary meeting of the Auckland Council governing body, Jo Holmes, Spokesperson for the Auckland Ratepayers’ Alliance, says:
“The Mayor is trying to frame this as antipathy toward intensification. Nonsense - this is about Council shutting the door on democratic process for the people directly affected by the zoning process.”
“What confidence can Auckland residents have participating in Council consultations when officials show such a willingness to move the goalposts at the last minute?”
“What a pity we lack a Council that is upfront and honest. If we had one, these issues would have been put before the public for genuine consultation two years ago in the draft plan.”
