Greymouth world record attempt
Fourteen Greymouth schools, dozens of businesses and hundreds of members of the public are gathering at Rugby Park this Friday to attempt a world record for a continuous high five.
Organised by Maria Swinburn of Parfitt Kids, Lisa Casey and Tracey Anderson the attempt requires more than 1647 people to break the record.
Mrs Swinburn is confident that Greymouth will succeed in its bid.
“We’ve had all the Greymouth schools supporting this event, plus local businesses. Each person participating is getting sponsored, and the money raised goes towards seven local charities: St John, Greymouth Parents Centre, Blue Light, Child Cancer Foundation, Ronald McDonald House, Foster Hope and Parfitt Kids.”
Parfitt Kids is a registered charity that offers useful support to children and their families in the form of hospital gift packs.
Spot prizes donated by local businesses include two tablets and set of headphones donated by the Warehouse and a trip to Queenstown with flights, accommodation and activities from Queenstown business'.
Each participant will receive a numbered wrist band, and local service clubs and ANZ staff would help with corralling kids and adults alike for the videoed Guinness Book of Records attempt.
Everyone was welcome to come to the event and would need to turn up before 11am when it officially starts.
