Biggest Protest Yet at the Waikato Rodeo Today
This afternoon animal activists from the group Direct Animal Action protested outside the Waikato Rodeo in Kihikihi.
About 55 protesters including Waikato locals lined up on the roadside outside the rodeo venue.
The group has protested outside a number of rodeo events in the North Island this rodeo season and want the Government to implement a nationwide ban.
“Investigations reveal that animals are regularly abused at rodeos in our country. We need to set a better example for our kids, hurting animals for entertainment is just not Kiwi,” said Direct Animal Action spokesperson Kathleen Lafferty.
“The number of protesters has consistently increased throughout the rodeo season, and Kiwi’s are eager to jump on board and show their support for a ban on rodeo.”
“The petition run by SAFE, the SPCA and Farmwatch is now at 42,000 signatures. Kiwi’s don’t like seeing animals suffering for entertainment and they certainly don’t want to see them dying for it.”
“This is the last protest Direct Animal Action will be holding against the rodeo this season, but the campaign to end rodeo will continue,” said Ms. Lafferty.
