Two mission for the Palmerston North Rescue Helicopter

Two mission for the Palmerston North Rescue Helicopter

Just before dawn the Palmerston North Rescue Helicopter was dispatched to an MVA at Kaitoke near Whanganui where multiple occupants were trapped in the wreckage of two cars after a head-on smash. Patients were transported from the scene by road ambulance to Whanganui Hospital Prior to the arrival of the helicopter, a third patient, a Whanganui man in his 20’s, was airlifted to Palmerston North Hospital with serious head and leg injuries. A second helicopter from Wellington was also despatched to the accident. Police and Fire were at the scene assisting with helicopter and road traffic management.

The second mission occurred last night just before dark when a 64 year old American River guide suffered chest and shoulder injuries from a rock fall whilst fishing near Iron Bark Hut in the Ruahine Ranges. The alarm was raised by a companion who made a significant journey out from the accident scene back to their base at River Valley Lodge. The patient was located by the helicopter crew following directions of the companion and was flown to Palmerston North Hospital in a stable condition.
