North Harbour Club Celebrates 20 Years
4 February 2016 – In 2015 the North Harbour Club celebrated 20 years of helping talented North Harbour Youth fulfill
their goals and aspirations.
The club's founding story, and tireless work by members over the years to raise funds to support talented North Harbour
Youth, is detailed in the newly released celebratory 20th Anniversary book, 'The first Twenty Years of Excellence".
The North Harbour Club was established on 18 May 1995, then as now, the Club consists of a group of business people
focusing on promoting the North Harbour region and raising funds to award grants to the region's youth through the
annual AIMES Awards (Arts, IT, Innovation & Science, Music, Education, Sport and Service to the Community).
The Club was formed back in the formation days of the region when Albany was the heart of phenomenal growth on the North
Shore and the now iconic Massey University Campus in its early years, and QBE Stadium still a dream.
North Harbour Club President Aidan Bennett, who co-wrote the book with North Harbour Club founding member Professor Ian
Watson, says, "The book celebrates 20 years of the North Harbour Club and its achievements and we're looking forward to
another 20 years of helping the region's aspiring youth achieve their goals."
Thanks to the North Harbour Club's 160 plus members, awards and grants totalling more than $1.65 million have been
awarded over the years to talented youth to help them attain even higher excellence in their fields.
"The youth are the future of New Zealand and the Club's members are proud to be able to help our region's upcoming
talent achieve their goals," Aidan says.
"Every year the number of applicants for the AIMES awards increases and every year the bar of excellence is lifted. The
depth of skill and talent of North Harbour youth is outstanding presenting the judges with a difficult challenge of
choosing the grant recipients."
