Visionarium journey comes to an end
After 18 months of touring the greater Christchurch region and being visited by more than 70,000 people in the community, the Visionarium ended its journey yesterday in Cathedral Square.
The customised shipping container has allowed visitors to browse recovery information and to leave their own video feedback using a range of electronic tools fitted into the container.
“The Visionarium has been a fantastic way for us to provide information to the community about the various recovery projects and initiatives in greater Christchurch,” says Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority (CERA) Acting Chief Executive John Ombler.
“It’s also been a great tool for us to receive feedback from the community, particularly on significant recovery documents like the Residential Red Zone Offer Recovery Plan and the Transition Recovery Plan.”
“It’s served as a hub where people can discuss rebuild plans and ask questions of our dedicated team of ambassadors.”
“The Visionarium has moved throughout the city, and as far as Lyttelton, Rangiora and Rolleston. It’s also popped up at events such as the Canterbury A Show, Cricket World Cup, Matariki, and the World Buskers Festival.”
“A highlight for both local and international visitors to the Visionarium has been the 230-inch screens which ran the ‘Liquid Galaxy’ programme, giving viewers detailed aerial views of the city and integrating 3D modelling of plans for the central city.”
“With the winding down of CERA, it’s the right time for the Visionarium to end its journey throughout greater Christchurch. Once the new regeneration agencies take up the reins for the next phase for the city, I’m sure other new and exciting public engagement tools will be developed.”
