Iconic Night Noodle Markets set-up shop in Christchurch this summer

The iconic Australian Night Noodle Markets are crossing the ditch this summer to set-up shop in Christchurch for the
first time.
For five nights in February, a range of high-quality food vendors will be offering delicious, authentic Asian meals from
a hawker-style market based in North Hagley Park.
The inaugural New Zealand market will showcase over 20 local and international food stalls, including the renowned
Melbourne-based Hoy Pinoy.
James Meehan, the chef behind Hoy Pinoy, will introduce Cantabrians to his signature Filipino barbecue skewers. There
are two flavours available – chicken and pork belly –both served with rice and Achara (pickled papaya).
Christchurch favourites include Fusion at The Asiatique, Sasuke Japanese Restaurant and Pot Sticker Dumpling Bar.
Pot Sticker Dumpling Bar owner, Sally Willis, says it’s exciting for Christchurch to have an event of this scale that is
internationally recognised.
“The Night Noodle Markets will really add vibrancy to Christchurch - and help showcase local Asian cuisine. We pride
ourselves on being obsessed with dumplings, and we now have the perfect platform to put our money where our mouth is.”
Night Noodle Markets – a Fairfax initiative – have taken Australia by storm since their inception in 1998 as part of the
Sydney Morning Herald’s Good Food Month. The markets are now an annual event in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Brisbane
and Perth.
Fairfax Media NZ Events Manager, Brett McMeekin, says: “With all the colour, sounds and smells of an Asian hawker market
plus the buzz, hype and vibe of an outdoor festival, Night Noodle Markets are a must for any foodie – and family – in
Christchurch.
"And this is just the start! We're looking to grow and replicate the concept across New Zealand, with events planned in
Wellington and Auckland later in the year."
The five-day event coincides with the NZ Women’s Golf Open (11-13 February), musical event Sparks (13 February),
multipart bike, kayak and run event Coast to Coast (12 – 13 February) and Valentine’s Day (14 February).
Entry is free and food will range from $5.00 to $15.00 - cash only, no tokens required. There are two bars on site.
