Water restrictions for city
Water restrictions for city
Council has issued a
level one water restriction asking people to limit sprinkler
use to between 6am - 8am only and keep hand-held hosing to a
minimum.
“If we don’t reduce the amount of water we’re using, we could be looking at further restrictions,” says water team leader Marcus Koll.
The amount of water being used spiked to 27,000 cubic meters during yesterday’s hot temperatures – which is extremely high and unusual.
The daily city consumption is around 16,000m3 and reaches a maximum of 25,000m3 when industry is in full production.
“Seasonal commercial users are not even in full swing yet and more hot weather is forecast.
“The dam levels are above normal, but reservoir storage in town has dropped sharply with the demand.
“The Waipaoa treatment plant is getting ready but won’t be turned on until extra water is needed.
“Water alert information has been posted on our Facebook page and website,” says Mr Koll.
