Geotextile Material Washed Ashore
Earlier today, Bay of Plenty Regional Council were notified by Tauranga City Council that a large piece of geotextile material had washed ashore in Ōmanu. Regional Council Pollution Prevention staff are currently assessing the material to identify if it is part of the artificial Mount surf reef. If confirmed, further assessment of the current condition of the surf reef will take place.
Geotextile material looks similar to carpet and the Regional Council would like to hear from anyone who has observed any of this material on the shore. To report these sightings please call our pollution hotline on 0800 884 883.
