Restricted Fire Season
means fires by permit only
Permits for all open air
fires will be required as a Restricted Fire Season comes
into effect in Horowhenua from this Wednesday.
The exceptions are:
· Barbecues lit in properly-constructed containers and fuelled with gas or liquid fuel.
· Properly constructed incinerators with lid, flue and ash pan.
The Restricted Fire
Season covers the entire Horowhenua District including urban
and rural areas, as well as Department of Conservation land
bordering the District, and is from 1am this Wednesday 20
January until further notice.
A prohibited fire season is declared on all beaches and the area within 3km of the coast. Outside of this area permits will be issued only for essential land management operations such as stubble burns. Any application to light a fire for garden rubbish, household waste or a fire that contains large logs, stumps or other heavy fuel or slash will be declined.
Permits will be issued during office hours on weekdays only, after allowing sufficient time for an inspection to be made by a Rural Fire Officer.
For all fire emergencies phone 111 and give your name, address, telephone number and rural number (if applicable).
All enquiries and fire permit requests should be made to the Horowhenua District Council on 06 366 0999.
