Assessment of Island Bay Upgrade needed - cycyling advocates

Published: Fri 15 Jan 2016 11:09 AM
Cycling advocates are calling for a prompt assessment of the Island Bay Parade Upgrade.
"There are valid concerns about the Island Bay cycleway that need fixing," said Patrick Morgan from Cycling Action Network.
"These include positioning of parking by the medical centre, difficulty accessing some driveways, poor visibility, and width of the Parade affecting buses and wide vehicles."
He says the Council needs to complete a prompt post-build assessment, including talking to Parade residents.
"If concerns are well-founded, then the Council needs to address them urgently."
Options include narrowing parts of the cycleway, and adjusting on-street parking, especially by the medical centre.
He says an assessment needs to address valid concerns, and demonstrate the Council's commitment to listening to residents and fixing problems.
