Hagley Park hosts city party to greet the New Year
Join the Christchurch City Council for the big countdown to 2016 at the city's free New Year’s Eve party in North Hagley Park beside Lake Victoria.
The fun starts at 6.30pm on Thursday 31 December with Hannah and Molly, followed by a line-up of swinging entertainment from the Christchurch School of Rock and JK Danceworks, leading into the 'midnight' countdown for kids at 8.30pm.
Take a picnic or get some food from one of the stalls and remember, this party is alcohol free.
From 9pm the celebrations gear up with The Vague As Brothers, D'sendantz, and the New Entrants.
After the countdown to midnight, fireworks will shoot into the night sky, and the New Entrants and a piper will farewell the old year and greet the new with Auld Lang Syne.
The New Year celebration is regular highlight of the Council’s SummerTimes events. The SummerTimes brochure has all the details. Pick up a copy at Council service centres and libraries, or check the SummerTimes website.
Parking is available at Carlton Mill corner for a small fee. Entry is off Harper Avenue.
