New roundabout in central Queenstown

New roundabout in central Queenstown

Drivers in central Queenstown will notice a new road layout at the intersection of Ballarat and Camp Streets, where a mini roundabout was installed overnight.

The roundabout is the first of the new road safety initiatives signalled by the Queenstown Lakes District Council and NZTA last month. It makes the right turn from Ballarat into Camp St easier for buses and other vehicles.

At this stage, no physical changes will be made to footpaths or the road, but QLDC will monitor how the roundabout operates and review whether other changes are needed after the busy summer season.

The other pending changes will involve the installation of traffic lights at the intersections of Stanley St with Ballarat St and Shotover St. This will be a joint project between the Council and NZTA and is scheduled to begin in March or April.

The Council will also be stationing safety patrols at the Stanley St pedestrian crossing over the Christmas – New Year peak period to help manage the flow of pedestrians and vehicles.
