Wellington Movie Museum and Convention Centre highly beneficial and strongly supported
Property Council welcomes Wellington City Council's
announcement about the new Wellington Movie Museum and
Convention Centre as an opportunity to regenerate and
economically grow the city.
Wellington Branch President Mike Cole says the proposals have the potential to "turn on and transform Wellington".
"We welcome this project as it will offer positive multiplier effects for the region as a whole. It will create jobs and economic growth during construction and once operational. It will also be a catalyst for urban regeneration to a part of the CBD that has been under-utilised for a long period of time.”
Property Council believes such projects serve as the circuit-breaker the city has needed for a long time.
"Wellington has been crying out for substantial investment over the last 10 years. We need to cash in on our coolest little capital image – the proposed movie museum and convention centre would do just that, especially given the point of differentiation, giving us a competitive edge.
"It is exciting to see Wellington City Council being pro-active. Their recent announcement about the runway extension, laneways and now this - sends the private sector the signals that Wellington is open and ready for business and investment."
Property Council congratulates Wellington City Council for looking at alternative funding mechanisms to provide breakthrough infrastructure and facilities at minimal exposure to the Council and to ratepayers.
"We also congratulate Sir Peter Jackson and Sir Richard Taylor and their team for their continued support for Wellington for well over 20 years.
"Their generosity has done wonders for Wellington's economy by significantly investing into jobs, buildings and bringing substantial overseas investment into the city."
